I’m interested in context and color, music, and the language that surrounds it. I’m interested in the stories.
A desire to find and to share is behind just about every project and professional choice I’ve made over the past decade-plus working around independent music and culture. This website is a working document of where that’s led and what I can offer now, through collaborative projects (with you, perhaps).
Thanks for stopping by.
Featured album bio: Julianna Barwick & Mary Lattimore - Tragic Magic
Tragic Magic finds Julianna Barwick and Mary Lattimore, two of contemporary ambient and experimental music's most celebrated composers, synthesizing their respective crafts within the walls of Philharmonie de Paris, given access to the extraordinary instrument collection of the Musée de la Musique in partnership with the French label InFiné.
The collaborative album, co-produced by Trevor Spencer (Fleet Foxes, Beach House), came together in just nine days, a testament to the "musical telepathy," as Barwick puts it, that has developed between the two over the years, traveling the world as tourmates. Together in freeform dialogue, voice and instrument, the artists render a meditation on tragedy, wonder, and the restorative power of shared experience. Seven immersive, evocative songs guided by the human spirit. Intimate, grounded in friendship, earthly yet cosmic, and part of a greater continuum, speaking to the solace of artistry that’s lifted us for generations…
Featured copy project: Ghostly x Audika & Tom Lee
In our reverence for great artists, Ghostly International has once again partnered with Audika Records and the estate of virtuosic and prescient musician Arthur Russell (1951-1992) on a limited capsule collection of some of his most memorable visual works. In 2019, we launched a handful of items from the archive of New York-based visual artist Tom Lee, highlighting postcard flyers he designed for his longtime partner, Russell. It’s been an honor and a privilege collaborating with these two stewards of Russell’s legacy, who were just as excited as we were to continue the project.
The second capsule further celebrates Russell’s visual language, bringing an expanded series of flyers by both Russell and Lee to a new spread of short and long-sleeve tees, plus a crewneck sweatshirt, and a baseball cap…
Featured curatorial project: Stack (and what’s next)
Hype Machine’s weekly discovery newsletter, Stack, launched in 2014 as “a snapshot of what’s happening in music now, from our hearts to your inbox.”
Five tracks, a featured album, a good mix, and a good read, delivered every week. That’s roughly 2500 songs from almost as many artists over the past decade.
Writing Stack, I highlighted a range of music, something interesting from each loosely defined sonic bin. The practice of listening, reading, and putting Stack together was a regular reminder that there is real joy in discovery. (I hope that it’s brought some to readers as well.)
The 500th and final Stack was sent in August 2025. Stack will return in another form. Add your email for updates here.
